How she/he became a vampire:
He is the son of a merchant in europe, his father sent him to Japan to set up trade routes to further increase the wealth of his family. He moved there with his wife and two children since back in that time people married young. His brother once his father died wanted to cut him out of the inheritance so he sent someone out to kill him and his family.  Adam took a deep interest into the culture and began to try to find a school to teach him martial arts. No school would teach a westerner except for one school of ninjutsu. While he was training Zyanya watched over him. She observed his training and how we was a person. He learned while making a life out of trading. His brother hired someone to set fire to his ship while he and his family were on it. He had a shipment of gunpowder on the ship, that he was given as a gift. The fire ignited the gunpowder and his ship was blown to pieces.  He survived the blast on his trade ship, because he was running late by being formal with the seller. He was laying in the alley with his blood seeping out his wounds. Thinking he was gonna die, he made peace with himself and hoped his family was alright. He say a woman walk towards him and kneeled down next to him. She offered immortality and revenge against who killed his family. He accepted and drank her blood. She drank his blood and handed him a shard of glass that was laying in the alley. He raised it over his heart and plunged it into his chest. His hands fell to his side and his eyes closed. He woke up undead and healed. He hid in the shadows of the alley until the sun finally set and followed Zyanya back to her house.
